Staggering cost of war: US spends $3.7 billion on Iran bombing

War comes with a price tag, and the recent US-led bombing of Iran is proving to be a costly affair.

The US spent a whopping $3.7 billion in the first four days of the conflict, according to estimates from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).

The breakdown of the bill reveals that the largest chunk of the expenditure, approximately $3.5 billion, was unbudgeted and will likely require supplemental funding from the US Congress.

This amount was spent on replenishing munitions, including precision-guided weapons used in the initial strikes.

The cost of replacing these munitions is estimated to be around $758.1 million per day.

The US has expended over 2,000 munitions of various types in the first 100 hours of the war, including Tomahawk cruise missiles, which cost around $2 million each.

The daily operational costs are also substantial, with estimates suggesting that air operations alone cost $30 million per day, while naval operations cost $15 million per day.

Ground operations, on the other hand, cost around $1.6 million per day.

The US has deployed significant military assets, including two carrier strike groups and over 200 aircraft, to the region.

The daily operating cost for these assets is estimated to be around $59.39 million, excluding munitions and equipment losses.

The war has also resulted in significant equipment losses, including three F-15 fighter jets shot down in a friendly fire incident.

The replacement cost for these jets is estimated to be around $309 million.

As the conflict continues, the total cost is expected to escalate further.

Analysts estimate that the direct military cost for the US could reach $65 billion to $95 billion if the conflict persists for several weeks.
