🚨'NO CHOICE' - JOHNSON RUNS OFF HOUSE FLOOR, DROPS BOMBSHELL ON LIVE TV

‘NO CHOICE’ — MIKE JOHNSON WARNS GOP LOSS COULD OPEN THE DOOR TO ANOTHER TRUMP IMPEACHMENT

The House speaker said Republicans must retain their majority in the 2026 midterms or risk Democrats moving quickly against President Donald Trump. Despite the viral wording, Johnson did not flee the House floor or reveal a secret emergency.

WASHINGTON — House Speaker Mike Johnson delivered a blunt warning about the stakes of the 2026 midterm elections, declaring that Republicans had “no choice” but to retain control of the House if they wanted President Donald Trump to complete his agenda without another impeachment battle.

The statement has resurfaced under dramatic headlines claiming Johnson “ran off the House floor” and dropped a bombshell on live television. The verified remarks, however, came during Johnson’s June 8, 2025, appearance in the ABC News studio on This Week. There is no indication that he suddenly fled the House chamber or interrupted congressional business to make the announcement.

Johnson predicts immediate impeachment pressure

Johnson argued that losing the House would effectively bring Trump’s legislative program to a halt halfway through his term.

“We have no choice. We have to hold the House majority in the 2026 midterm election,” Johnson said. He then predicted that if Democrats regained control, they would attempt to impeach Trump during the opening days of the new Congress in January 2027.

The prediction was political—not an announcement that impeachment proceedings had already begun. Democrats had not introduced a new impeachment resolution connected to Johnson’s remarks, and the speaker did not disclose private information about a planned effort.

Instead, he was using the prospect of impeachment to emphasize how much Republicans believe is at stake in the midterms.

The warning came during the Trump–Musk feud

Johnson made the comments while discussing the public breakdown between Trump and Elon Musk.

Musk had sharply criticized Trump’s major tax-and-spending package and encouraged his followers to pressure lawmakers to defeat it. Johnson defended the legislation, saying its spending increases were concentrated on border security and defense while the rest of the package focused on tax cuts and savings.

The speaker also warned that it would be a mistake for Musk to fund primary challenges against Republicans who supported the bill.

Johnson said he believed Musk would eventually recognize that keeping Republicans in power was necessary to prevent Democrats from taking control of the House and disrupting the second half of Trump’s term.

A campaign warning, not a sudden constitutional crisis

The phrase “drops bombshell” exaggerates what happened. Johnson did not announce his resignation, disclose a coup inside the Republican conference or reveal that Trump was about to be removed.

His real message was simpler and more strategic: the Republican majority was central to protecting Trump’s presidency and advancing the White House agenda.

The remarks also revealed how Republicans planned to frame the approaching midterms. Rather than presenting the election only as a contest over taxes, immigration or federal spending, Johnson portrayed it as a battle over whether Trump would be permitted to govern for a full four years.

That warning may have been designed to energize conservative voters and donors, but it also acknowledged a political reality: control of the House gives the majority party subpoena power, control over investigations and the ability to initiate impeachment proceedings.

Johnson did not “run off” the floor in panic.

But his words made clear that he viewed the fight for the House as nothing less than a fight for the survival of Trump’s presidency.
