'Lost Sight of Values': Jillian Michaels Faces Backlash Over Pride Month vs. Veterans Comments

Fitness personality Jillian Michaels is facing sharp criticism online after questioning why LGBTQ Pride is celebrated for an entire month while suggesting military veterans receive only a single day of national recognition.

Speaking on the Actual Friends podcast, the former Biggest Loser trainer argued that American society has confused its cultural priorities.

“The reality is that when you give gay people a month and veterans a day, I think you have wildly lost sight of your values and your priorities,” Michaels said.

Michaels, who publicly came out as a lesbian in 2012 and married her wife in 2022, has become an increasingly vocal critic of contemporary LGBTQ advocacy and public events.

Writing in a previous column for the Daily Mail, she contended that modern Pride festivities have been “hijacked by leather daddies, drag shows and corporate stunts.”

During the podcast appearance, Michaels also argued that Pride Month has drifted far from its historical roots.

She claimed the observance has been “co-opted by places like Target,” while reflecting on past decades when LGBTQ Americans were forced to remain “hiding in closets.”

Critics online swiftly pushed back against her comparison, pointing out that military service members and their families are recognized across multiple federally designated observances throughout the year.

Social media users highlighted that the United States formally marks National Military Appreciation Month every May, alongside Military Spouse Appreciation Month in May and Gold Star Awareness Month, in addition to the federal Veterans Day holiday in November.

One widely shared post on X noted that Military Appreciation Month had concluded “like three weeks ago” relative to the timing of her comments.

Another user argued that Michaels “clearly does not care enough about veterans to know there are two different months.”

The remarks represent the latest flashpoint involving Michaels, whose repeated public criticisms of corporate Pride campaigns and modern LGBTQ celebrations continue to fuel polarizing debates across social media over cultural recognition and veteran appreciation.
