Kamala Harris is keeping an open mind about launching another White House campaign in 2028.

The former vice president and 2024 Democratic presidential nominee recently spoke with podcaster Sharon McMahon, who asked Harris if she'll make another bid for president. The question has followed Harris, 61, since she lost the most recent election to President Donald Trump in November 2024.

"I haven't decided," Harris responded. "I might."

Harris has made similar noncommittal comments about running again in recent months. In October 2025, during an interview with the BBC, Harris said her grandniece would get to see a female U.S. president "in their lifetime, for sure" — and when asked if it would be her, Harris replied, "possibly."

"I am not done," she said. "I have lived my entire career as a life of service, and it's in my bones."

On July 21, 2024, then-President Joe Biden announced his decision to exit the presidential race and endorsed Harris, his vice president at the time, as the Democratic nominee.

Following a historic 107-day presidential campaign, and her subsequent loss in November 2024, Harris left the White House alongside Biden, marking the first time in more than 20 years she did not hold a public service position.

Harris did not address any plans to return to public service until July 2025, when she announced she would not run for California governor — another role she had been considering.

"In recent months, I have given serious thought to asking the people of California for the privilege to serve as their governor," Harris said in a statement. "I love this state, its people, and its promise. It is my home. But after deep reflection, I've decided that I will not run for Governor in this election."

She added, "For now, my leadership — and public service — will not be in elected office. I look forward to getting back out and listening to the American people, helping elect Democrats across the nation who will fight fearlessly, and sharing more details in the months ahead about my own plans."
