Part 2: Echoes of the Frozen Crown : Whispers from the Core

The lower chambers glowed with unnatural blue.

The Magical Core pulsed like a dying heart.

Queen Katherine approached alone.

Her breath clouded the air.

The music box tucked in her cloak.

She placed it near the crystal.

Golden light flickered inside.

Warm against the cold.

"Show me the truth," she whispered.

Visions swirled.

Their first kiss in the commoner village.

Laughter before the crown.

Then the sacrifice.

Alden giving his happiest memories.

To stop the eternal winter.

But something was wrong.

Shadows in the visions.

Minister hands guiding the process.

Katherine pulled back.

Tears froze on her lashes.

King Alden entered suddenly.

Drawn by unseen pull.

"What is this place?"

His voice uncertain.

She turned.

Hope flared.

"It's us. What we gave."

He touched the Core.

Pain twisted his features.

A real emotion.

Malakor rushed in with guards.

"Your Majesty, the cleansing preparations."

Alden stepped back.

The flicker died.

"Prepare then."

Katherine blocked the path.

"Don't let them take more."

Alden looked at her.

Polite stranger again.

"My queen... you worry too much."

Later in the great hall.

Banquet for the ministers.

Frosted goblets.

False cheer.

Katherine watched Alden laugh at their jokes.

Cold calculated laughs.

She slipped the music box onto the table.

It played softly.

Conversation stopped.

Alden stared.

His fingers reached.

Malakor knocked it away.

"A dangerous toy, my lady."

Katherine met his eyes.

Steel against steel.

That night she found the hidden journal.

Malakor's handwriting.

The Core was never just for winter.

It was a chain.

Designed to hollow the royals.

Forever.

She closed it.

Heart racing.

Alden stood in the doorway.

"Katherine?"

His voice softer than before.

But footsteps approached behind him.

Malakor's shadow grew longer.

The choice was coming.

May you like

Restore him.

Or lose everything.
